Make the fireplace work for you
Don’t let expensive heat or air-conditioning go up your chimney this winter.
We all like a cheerful home fire in the winter, but be sure to keep your fireplace damper closed unless you have a fire burning. If the damper is open and there’s no fire, your indoor heated air will go up the chimney faster than Santa Claus can slide down it.
If you do use the fireplace, install tempered glass doors and a heat-air exchange system that maximizes heat from the fire.
And if you never use the fireplace, plug and seal the chimney flue to ensure your heat stays in and the cold stays out this winter.
No sense sending paid-for heat up the chimney.
